Cultivar

A cultivated variety that has been given a distinguishing name. A cultivar is assumed to be constant in its horticultural qualities and able to be propagated with those qualities unaltered. Tree and shrub cultivars are nearly always single clones, selected either from the variation within a species or from hybrid seedlings between 2 or more species. Modern cultivars must be given names of non-Latin form. Their names are enclosed in single quotes and are capitalized, e.g. ?Golden Delicious?.
