Frost hardy

(of plant species, varieties or cultivars) Able to withstand exposure to frost without damage to foliage or stems or whatever parts normally persist through winter. Frost hardiness is entirely relative to climate, for example Abutilon megapotamicum survives the light frosts in the hills of southeastern Australia (Zone 8) but will not survive outdoors in the interior of Britain (Zone 7); while Araucaria araucana tolerates winters in most parts of Britain but is killed outright by winter frost in northeastern USA (Zone 5).
