Fruit

(in the botanical sense) The seed-containing organ of any of the flowering plants, whether fleshy or dry. Normally one fruit is developed from one flower; if derived from more than one flower it is termed a compound fruit or syncarp (e.g. in Pandanus, Morus); if derived from only one of several carpels of the flower it is termed a mericarp, the mericarps resulting from all the carpels collectively called a schizocarp (e.g. in Brachychiton).
