Name: Xanthorhiza
Cultivation: CULTIVATION: This very different member of the buttercup family can be used for ground cover in sun or part-shade. It needs a moist, reasonably fertile, mulched soil. Propagate from seed or by division.
Description: This genus, which is native to eastern North America, is a member of the buttercup family and contains just the one species of small deciduous shrub that has a creeping and suckering rootstock. The leaves are pinnately divided and clustered near the shoot tips. It has small dark purple flowers that appear with the emerging leaves.
