New organic fertilizers and products for your garden

I have always been very mindful of the little sign that people put on their lawns warning to stay off due to application of chemicals. I am wary of any application on my lawn even though University of Guelph has concluded in their studies that no detectable levels of pesticide residue to casual bystanders or homeowners have observed from an application. It has been proven that these chemicals make their way into our water system.

On April 22, 2008, the government introduced new legislation that would, if passed, ban the use and sale of pesticides that may be used for cosmetic purposes. The Canadian Cancer Society have made a convincing case for reducing our exposure to pesticides, particularly children who are generally susceptible to the potential toxic effects of pesticides.

How to fertilize your garden?
Fortunately there are number of new products that will allow you to take care of your lawn and still not hurt the environment. This year Scotts Canada has introduced their new line of Miracle-Gro Organic Choice products that will allow you to still have a lush garden without the harmful chemicals. These products are produced in number of facilities across North America and their ingredients consists of municipality waste and organic by-products. These products have met the requirements for Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) requirements that you can grow food with them and they would be considered as Organic.

Miracle-Gro Organic Choice Plant Food™ provides a slow release N-P-K charge of 7-1-2 for bigger, healthier plants with stronger roots. Miracle-Gro Organic Choice Plant Food feeds organically for up to two months. Also new from Miracle-Gro, Organic Choice Bone Meal provides the ideal boost for roses, bulbs, and flowering shrubs, all from non-bovine, organic sources. For those in the market for organic soil amendments, Miracle-Gro Organic Choice Garden Soil and Miracle-Gro Organic Choice Potting Mix will give gardeners the promise of bigger, healthier plants, vegetables and flowers organically for in ground and container gardens. The Organic Choice Garden Soil provides both quick and slow release nutrients from organic ingredients for in-ground vegetable, flower and herb gardens, while the Organic Choice Potting Mix does the same for container gardens and potted tropical, foliage and flowering plants. The line builds on the popular Miracle-Gro Nursery Select and Scotts Pro Blends soils, both introduced in 2007.

I have a container garden on my deck and used the organic potting mix not knowing there was organic potting soil. the potting mix says not to use with containers. Does anyone know  if this will be a problem and why it is not ok for containers. my vegetables are planted already!

Although it says Organic, technically and truly, how do you really know exactly how those "organic" ingredients were processed and where they came from?
