The way a path or patio is edged plays an important part in
the design of the flooring. Many well-designed pavers and setts (small cobble-like pavers) have complementary kerb edging.
One idea is to make edgings
by laying pavers in a different direction to the rest of the path or patio, or setting them on their sides to create a ridge. Bricks can be set at an angle to make a zigzag edge.
Scallop shells left over from the dinner table or cajoled from the fishmonger make a delightful edging in shades of soft coral that co-ordinate well with terracotta paving. Because edging materials do not need to be particularly durable, they offer an almost limitless number of decorative possibilities.
